Anita-Hosanna Kangabe is an archetypal Aries: she exudes passion for what she loves. This Vancouver raised artist first fell in love with art early on in life and later fell for fashion, developing an intricate eye for style. While in deep thought during her post-graduate studies, Anita Hosanna asked herself, “is this the path for me?”. It was not. She desired to impact the world and create change. She knew that her contribution would be unconventional.
Anita’s six years of studies in social work and political science have richly informed her approach to fashion, which values diversity, inclusivity and community. Whilst her thorough research skills have effortlessly transferred into researching the ever-evolving arena of fashion. Today, as a fashion stylist and creative consultant, Anita helps businesses, artists and entrepreneurs refine their visual representation. And make the most of their online presence through content creation. Throughout her studies, Anita remained equally involved in the fashion industry.
It all began with Anita founding the University of Ottawa’s first fashion club during her junior year in 2014. An event that led her to start traveling around the globe, volunteering at fashion weeks and learning the ropes of the business. At any chance Ishecould get with a community of like-minded people. During these years, she also joined the team at KROWD Magazine as a Talent Scout and HR Coordinator to fully immerse myself in fashion. It turned out that style – something that started out as her creative outlet and preferred medium of expression – proved to be my calling.
Anita’s experience as a fashion stylist debuted in 2017 at Rent frock Repeat. A tech start-up that was the first e-commerce rental service in Canada. Here, she began to find her role in the fashion equation at the intersection of styling and community building.
In 2018, Anita attended Toronto Fashion Week and Toronto International Film Festival. Where she had the opportunity to dress multi-platinum, international recording artist Mia Martina and more. In 2019, she flew to the UK with Toronto Fashion Incubator to coordinate and style their first ever live fashion show. During London Fashion Week at the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom. 2019 was also the year AnitaI attended New York Fashion Week. Before the pandemic would bring her budding career to an immediate stand-still.
At the time, like billions across the planet, Anita was faced with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic which she transformed into a “Plandemic”. Through innovation and technology, she found new ways to connect with clients across the world. This was one of the most challenging yet exciting periods of her life, as it made her understand that there are truly no limits to what we can achieve. Anita opted to pivot from strictly styling to creative consulting in order to help fashion businesses harness technology as a tool to build communities. As quarantine restrictions began to loosen, a collaboration project with Puma and J. Cole in 2020 led to many more milestones. Which includes her first international commercial with the brand in 2021.
Since the start of her styling journey, she has been fortunate to work as a Stylist on projects ranging from runway to editorial, advertisements, lookbooks, music videos and e-commerce. Over the years, she has worked for companies including fashion tech giant SSENSE, Group Aldo, Maison Simons, and Bôhten. Also with stylists such as Ty Hunter and Youth SMHR. Anita’s styling work can be seen in publications like L’Officiel, Lucy’s, VULKAN Magazine and Afro Punk. She has had the pleasure of dressing the likes of Karrueche Tran, Jeny BSG, TOME, Mrs. Gabon 2017 Gwen Madiba and others.
