Mustapha Asomani is a Ghanaian artist known for portraiture, gurative and landscape paintings. His work explores the physical and social aspects of our urban communities. He seeks to capture and share his own unique versions of the various stories involving people, activities, culture, markets, architecture, etc. Mustapha’s paintings offer the viewers the opportunity to reconnect with various aspects of their lives that are often overlooked and they offer you a license to journey between time and space. Mustapha Asomani holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from the University Of Ghana, Legon – Ghana.
My lifelong pursuit of creative expression drives me to share my own unique versions of the world I see and feel. Sometimes my work expresses beauty in the mundane and the overlooked, other times it holds up a mirror to the horrors and the ugliness. I use my work to question, honor, celebrate, suggest, create awareness and tell stories . I like to maintain a level of uniqueness in my work and though my interpretation of each subject may be different, I deploy a bit of classical and contemporary techniques to create my translations.
Evidence of strokes and markings are apparent in my works as I try to avoid my paintings being mistaken for photographs. I am generally open to working with other mediums but I find Oils and Pastels are perfect for my approach because of their rich pigments and versatility.
