The Journey
In 2019, Emmanuel Acheampong recognized that finding the right complexion makeup products especially foundations, concealers and skin tints was hard. Especially for people with deeper skin tones. A lot of people relied mainly on trial and error which results in a loss of time and product. As an AI engineer, Emmanuel realized that this was a data problem and ML techniques, particularly computer vision. And recommender systems can be leveraged to solve it.
In 2019, Emmanuel pitched the idea at a Facebook hackathon later that year and lost. However one of the female judges of the event was really into it and suggested they keep working on it. They built a simple proof of concept and thankfully a lot of people started adopting the product at a very high rate. Signaling the need for data based ways of finding beauty products. This fast adoption and consistent feedback from users are what has enabled them to take this product idea to an emerging AI startup.

They’ve currently joined over 40 affiliate programs of beauty brands and are working with a number of businesses in the beauty and fashion space. To leverage their algorithms to help users find the right complexion products including shape-wear, fashion and makeup. The team have also been fortunate to present their company at the AI Africa Expo 2021 conference.
