SOTO Gallery is a contemporary art centre dedicated to sharing diverse African perspectives through art. As the word implies, SOTO offers a mindful approach to art and examines new and improved ways of converging art, design, and installation. It is a community-centred space that seeks to provide an inclusive environment where art can be accessed, appreciated, and interpreted by all in both simple and complex ways. Following the success of nine editions of iDESIGN Art with over 200 artists featured, a permanent gallery that could further support artists was imminent. Here we are!
The origin of SOTO Gallery began with iDesign Art, established in 2018. iDesign Art is an affordable art fair conceived on the premise of fostering a culture of art appreciation from new and emerging Nigerian talents. Through nine successful editions over the years, we were able to discover and nurture dynamic young talents while impacting on the economic and cultural values of contemporary Nigerian art, with over two hundred artists featured.
At inception, iDesign art sought to reorient engagement in its capacity, setting a new and uncommon pace in the Lagos art scene. We created a space where tenured and emerging artists could intersect; their works and audiences interacting with one another, which in turn birthed a continuity of growth and opportunity between art stakeholders.

SOTO spotlights emerging talents while promoting established artists and forms a holistic interface between the new and the known. We take pride in maintaining a strong and trusting relationship with our represented artists who create in varying artistic styles. The collection of works here are reflective of ideas that come from a renewed standpoint and can be enjoyed in many forms.
With a focus on developing artistic talents and growing cultural consciousness, the gallery is open to everyone who wants to experience the rich history of art as it connects with African culture. A gem situated in South West Ikoyi.
The geometric external screen wall was installed to root the building in its surroundings. It is not only visually striking but also presents a sense of curiosity of what lies beyond. It is a continual invitation to come in and explore art at SOTO and design at iDESIGN. We want guests to soak up the environment at their own pace – it is a space for reflection, exploration and escape.
