Zheyna Thiam is a French-Senegalese and based in Paris. Over the years, she has developed a passion for candles and the scents and aromas of different countries of the world. She is now the founder of the Le Karithé brand, which makes upcycled scented candles with the scents of the world.
The history of the brand begins with a university exchange in Russia. Zheyna had prioritized candles on her shopping list to bring a soothing and familiar vibe to her home. But a big problem: the ones she consumed at the time were chemical (paraffin-based). Indeed, paraffin is a petroleum derivative and contributes to indoor air pollution.
When she returned, she decided to make her own candles with “clean” ingredients: soy wax, coconut butter, shea butter and sweet almond oil. For perfumes, she had the chance to collaborate with a perfumer from Grasse.
The Karithé is a brand of upcycled vegetable candles. Upcycling consists of reusing a container and giving it a second life: she recovers jars already used (yogurt pots, jam jars) to transform them into scented candles inspired by her origins: The Terranga Pack in tribute to Senegal, the Caribbean Style Pack for French Guiana.

The objective is to discover its scents and make people travel around the world. Today, the candles are made in partnership with an ESAT (establishment welcoming workers with disabilities) in the Paris region. The Made in Paris label has been awarded to the company for the year 2023, which attests that each of the candles is made in the Paris region.
